I chose computer science because it keeps my options open. I didn’t know what I wanted to specialise in, and the field is general enough that I could commit to it without committing to one narrow path. It also happens to be the thing I do in my own time, so most of the material comes easily to me.
In the near term I want to keep doing work that removes tedious problems for other people, which is most of what my co-op term has been. Longer term I’m drawn to software that people actually switch to – tools good enough that the cost of leaving whatever they were using stops being the deciding factor.
